Recently reburbished - The Old Checkpoint and The Old Post Office have been landmarks in the village for many years - Achnasheen is mentioned in Queen Victoria's diaries; she stayed at The Cottage waiting for a carriage to arrive from Kinlochewe whilst traveling to Loch Maree. History buffs will be interested to read the history of The Cottage here.

Achnasheen lies near to the junction between the A832 (which runs from Gorstan to Gairloch in the north - part of the now famous NC500) and the A890. The A890 runs west from Achnasheen to Lochcarron. From there you can go via Stromeferry to Kyle of Lochalsh, and Skye.
